[마추픽추, 그 길 위에서 배움을 만나다]

 드디어 마추픽추와 와이나픽추를 오를 서킷 2와 3 관광 준비를 모두 마쳤다. 
남미의 각국 랜드마크에서는 최소 일주일씩 깊게 머물 수 있음에 감사하다, 

물론, 돈만 있으면 마추픽추에 가는 건 쉬운 일이다.
하지만 돈만 들여 다녀오는 건 ‘여행’이 아니라 그냥 ‘관광’이라고 독일 친구들이 말해줬다. 

처음엔 조금 어이가 없었지만, 그들의 말에서 배낭여행의 본질에 대해 많이 배운다.
그들은 여행에 진심이다. 그래서 더 기억에 남는다.

나는 언제나 아껴서 오래 여행하는 쪽이다.
돈은 부족하지만, 시간은 내 편이니까.
그 사실이 얼마나 다행인지, 새삼 감사하다.

결론적으로 마추픽추에 가는 방법은 다양하지만, 나는 가장 저렴하면서도 오래 걸리는 루트를 선택했다.

쿠스코 → 이드로엘렉트리카(Hidroeléctrica) → 아구아스 깔리엔테스로 향하는 길이다. 
이드로엘렉트리카에서부터는 약 2~3시간을 강 옆 철길을 따라 15km 도보로 이동해야 한다.

비교하자면, 기차를 타면 왕복 약 6시간, 비용은 최소 18만 원 이상이다.
하지만 내가 선택한 버스 + 도보 루트는 총 20시간 이상, 왕복 비용은 약 4만 원.
시간이 많이 걸리긴 하지만, 나는 그 시간 동안 잉카 문명을 이해하기 위한 책 두 권을 정독하고, 함께 걷는 세계 각국의 친구들이자 외국어 선생님들과 공부하며 갈 계획이다.

단순히 빠르게 도착하는 것이 아니라,
걸으면서 배우고, 생각하고, 느끼는 여행.
이 길 위에서 나는 또 하나의 잉카 정신을 마주해보고 싶다. 

그리고 비록 빠르지 않지만 천천히 제대로 깊게 내 자신을 알아가 보는 배낭여행을 해보고싶다. 

[Machu Picchu — A Journey of Learning on the Road]

Departing from Cusco, the gateway to Machu Picchu, I’ve finally completed my mission plan: to hike both Circuit 2 and 3, exploring Machu Picchu and Huayna Picchu in full.
I'm grateful to have the time to stay deeply immersed in each South American landmark for at least a week.
I'm ready to savor every moment.

Sure, getting to Machu Picchu is easy—if you have the money.
But as my German friends say, if you're just paying for everything, that's not traveling—that's tourism.
I found that idea funny at first, maybe even a little absurd—but the more I travel, the more I learn from their way of thinking.
They might be intense, but they’re sincere, and I respect that.

I’ve always preferred to travel long and slow, stretching my budget as far as it will go.
I may lack money, but I have plenty of time—and that’s something to be grateful for.

There are many ways to reach Machu Picchu, but I’ve chosen the most affordable and time-consuming route:
From Cusco to Hidroeléctrica, then on foot to Aguas Calientes.
It takes over 3 hours of walking along the railway by the river—
a route that demands patience, but offers quiet beauty and reflection.

To compare:
Taking the train takes only about 6 hours round trip and costs at least 130 USD.
My choice—bus plus walking—takes more than 20 hours round trip, but only costs about 30 USD.

It may be a long journey, but I look forward to reading two books on Inca civilization during the ride,
and spending time with fellow travelers from around the world—each one a walking language teacher.

This journey isn’t about getting there fast.
It’s about walking, learning, thinking, and feeling along the way.
On this road, I hope to come face to face with another layer of the Incan spirit.
